"no interactive learning center existed that welcomed my daughter and others with neurodevelopmental disorders to learn and play alongside typical children. Wanting her to have the opportunity to interact with all children in a setting tailored to her needs, In collaboration with Dr. Andy Lopez-Williams, Neuropsychologist & Founder of CNY Quest, Mia’s Place was born."

"My husband and I were blessed to welcome our second child, and first daughter Mia, on March 18th, 2013. As it is a parent’s natural inclination to compare the development of their children, we worried about Mia's physical abilities at 15 months. “Our son was walking by age one, so there must be a problem if our daughter doesn’t follow suit.” We couldn’t help but wonder what the problem may be. Our pediatrician encouraged us to stay positive reminding us that all children develop differently. My motherly instinct told me otherwise; there was something wrong. After 12 months of being told not to worry, and repeated misdiagnosis by the medical professionals in Mia’s life, we faced a harsh reality when she was diagnosed with Autism. Our perfect world had a wrinkle in it, one that couldn’t be reversed and required immediate attention. What do we do next? How bad is it? What's her future outlook? A newfound pressure seemed to consume our daily living. We began to fear normal interaction with other families. Are people going to understand? Will we be judged? It became a very lonely existence. After years of being pulled in every direction, our heads constantly spinning, the strength of our relationship being put to the test, we were introduced to the wonderful individuals who make up CNY Quest. In spite of Quest’s impactful work in the areas of advocacy, family support, and medical care, No interactive learning center existed that welcomed my daughter and others with neurodevelopmental disorders to learn and play alongside typical children. Wanting her to have the opportunity to interact with all children in a setting tailored to her needs, in collaboration with Dr. Andy Lopez-Williams, Neuropsychologist & Founder of CNY Quest, Mia’s Place was born.”

The Inspiration Behind Mia's Place

I am seven years old. I am a daughter, little sister, niece, granddaughter, cousin and friend. I love my family and my pets. I need lots of hugs each day. I love to dance.

I have a big imagination and an even bigger heart. I dream of Disney princesses and having a real baby brother or sister. I am scared of bugs, loud noises and overwhelming places.

I feel happy and excited every day. I am proud to help make our community a better place for my friends. I am excited to play with my friends at Mia's Place.
